| Allen started woodturning a few years ago with the intention of finding a relaxing hobby during retirement. The hobby quickly turned into a passion. He has spent much of his life outdoors farming, hiking and fishing and has a great apprecitaion for the beauty of nature. Wood turning has expanded that appreciation to a new level through a new awareness of trees, wood and their properties. He enjoy finding wood whether it is a burl, a stump, a root or driftwood and envisioning what could be inside. The challenge and excitement lies in attempting to reveal and enhance the natural beauty of the wood. Allen incorporates imperfections such as knots, voids, bark and worm holes into the design. He feels that no two pieces are ever the same as each piece of wood is unique and presents new challenges and opportunities for creativity. Allen belongs to the San Diego Woodturners and interact with other woodturners to develop new skills and learn more about the art of woodturning.
