Chuck Zimmerman Jr. was born and raised in Cardiff by the Sea, California. He started woodcarving at a very early age after his father had given him his first pocket knife. While working in the local flower fields of Encinitas, Chuck would whittle small animals out of pieces of redwood he would find. Chuck works for the Delmar Thoroughbred Club and carves in the off season. He has a love for animals and enjoys carving these special creatures from chunks of wood and native burls. He has done his carving for the most part as just a hobby and for his own enjoyment. Chuck has been a member of the International Wildfowl Carving Association, I.W.C.A., since 1990. In 1991 he won an honorable mention at the Pacific Southwest Wildfoul Arts for a pelican head that he had submitted. He has since joined the San Diego County Carvers Guild where he now shows his art at Studio 38, Spanish Village Art Center, in Balboa Park. |
